Graduate With Down Syndrome Speaking At Ceremony

PERHAM, Minn. (WCCO) ― One Minnesota student speaking at her graduation ceremony this weekend is proving no obstacles can slow her down.

Amanda Wothe, who was diagnosed with Down syndrome when she was a baby, will be delivering the speech at this year's commencement at Perham High School.

When she was a baby, doctors told Wothe's mother that she would be too much to handle. Now, she's getting her high school diploma.

Wothe said she wants her classmates to always keep their dreams in sight, because anything's possible.

"I have many of the same goals and dreams as you," Wothe said. "So, to many of you, thank you for your support and for being my friend."

The ceremony will take place on Sunday. Wothe plans on working for the Work Center in Detroit Lakes, Minn. by this fall.
