Denny Hecker Facing DWI, Careless Driving Charges

(WCCO) The well-known owner of a number of local car dealerships is in more legal trouble Friday.

Denny Hecker will be charged with two misdemeanors for driving while impaired and careless driving.

Plymouth police said a combination of powerful painkillers and anti-anxiety medicine were found in Hecker's blood when he crashed his car the evening of December 3.

No alcohol was found in his blood, however.

Witnesses told police they saw a vehicle matching Hecker's description driving erratically and into oncoming traffic before swerving into a ditch and launching airborne into a utility pole, according to court documents.

An officer responding to the scene said Hecker told the paramedics he had been given Novocaine during a visit to the dentist. When the officer asked about it, Hecker reportedly said, "Dentist no. My name is Dennis."

The drugs found in his blood were hydrocodone, hydromorphone, morphine, amphetamine, alprazolam and zolpidem, according to court documents.

Hydrocodone, Hydromorphone and Morphine are narcotic painkillers. Amphetamine drugs are usually used to treat children for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. Zolpidem is a sleep aid and Alprazolam is an antidepressant.

Hecker's auto business is facing major financial difficulties and have closed many dealerships within the last year.
