St. Thomas Student Remembered For Zest For Life

EVELETH, Minn. (WCCO) ― The funeral for Dan Zamlen has drawn hundreds of relatives and friends, who recalled the University of St. Thomas student's compassion and zest for life.

Rev. Charles Flynn said Saturday that Zamlen had packed more living into 18 years than he had in 60-plus.

The Eveleth teen disappeared last month after leaving a house party in the pre-dawn hours. Police recovered his body in the Mississippi River about four weeks later.

Flynn recalls Zamlen as a man who had a thirst for knowledge and a hunger to help people.

The Rev. Erich Rutten of St. Thomas said Zamlen's legacy was reflected in the funeral's overflowing attendance. He says Zamlen will be remembered as someone who was mature and thoughtful.

More than 1,200 people searched for Zamlen before his body was found May 2.
