Cops: Eagan Couple Uses Craigslist For ID Theft
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) ―
An Eagan couple is accused of advertising for sex partners on Craigslist in order to steal IDs and credit cards.
Eric Christopher Thorsen and Amy Ruth Bergquist are charged in federal court with conspiracy, document trafficking and aggravated identity theft.
According to the indictment unsealed Thursday, the pair met people through Craigslist and arranged meetings at hotels or homes to engage in sex acts. They allegedly conspired to steal identification documents during the meetings by distracting the individual. Then they allegedly used the stolen identification, checks or bank records to buy things, including prescription drugs.
According to the indictment, four men and two women fell victim to the couple's alleged scheme. Five of them met Thorsen and Bergquist through Craigslist.
Current phone listings for Thorsen and Bergquist could not immediately be found.
