Coleman, Klobuchar Commemorate Bridge Collapse

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) ― Minnesota Senators Norm Coleman and Amy Klobuchar are commemorating the Interstate 35W collapse a day before the first anniversary of the tragedy.

Both senators on Thursday paid homage to the way Minnesotans pulled together last August 1 to help with the victims.

Coleman, a Republican, says people's natural instinct is to run from pain and danger. But on the day of the bridge collapse, he says, "hundreds of regular Minnesotans ran toward pain and danger and saved many, many lives."

Klobuchar, a Democrat, says disasters can bring out the best and worst in people. The I-35W bridge collapse, she says, brought out the best.

She says, "We joined together for the rescue, we joined together for the recovery and we joined together for the rebuilding."
