In First 3 Months Of '08, Coleman Raises $2M

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) ― Sen. Norm Coleman raised over $2 million in the first quarter of 2008, surpassing his totals for several previous quarters and accumulating a campaign war chest of nearly $7 million cash on hand.

The Republican incumbent's campaign released his first-quarter haul on Monday. A spokesman for his likely Democratic opponent, Al Franken, said he wasn't sure if the campaign would release Franken's first-quarter totals Monday.

Franken, the former comedian and commentator, outraised Coleman in the last three quarters of 2007.

But Coleman also had more cash in the bank at the end of 2007 than Franken, about $6 million compared to $3.1 million. Franken's campaign had been hoping that the departure of trial lawyer Mike Ciresi from the Democratic contest would allow them to start banking more money for the general election.

In all, Coleman has raised $12.37 million for his re-election.
