The race for U.S. Senate in Minnesota seems to be taking an edgier turn. The latest ad from the Norm Coleman campaign doesn't focus on the issues but takes some more personal swipes at challenger Al Franken.
"The guys and I have been talking, we've read all the stuff about Al Franken not paying taxes, going without insurance for his employees, foul-mouthed attacks on anyone he disagrees with, tasteless, sexist jokes and writing all that juicy porn, and we decided we're running for U.S. Senate," said the man in the ad.
While it might seem like the Coleman campaign is starting a more negative tone in this race, they argue that it's actually Franken who went negative first by running an ad linking Coleman to George W. Bush.
The new ad is not about taxes, Iraq or energy, but about Franken's personal life; tax troubles and some of his more risqué writing.
WCCO's Pat Kessler said with this being the most expensive senate race in the country, this could just be the beginning of a TV ad war.
