Danish Official Speaks In Minn. On Climate Change

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) ― A Danish diplomat is previewing the future of global climate change negotiations on Thursday in Minneapolis.

Danish Deputy Chief of Mission Soren Jensen will look ahead to the upcoming summit on climate change in a speech at the University of Minnesota's Humphrey Institute. World leaders will meet in Copenhagen in December to negotiate a new global treaty on reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Jensen's talk will also focus on renewable energy. His country draws 17 percent of its power from renewable sources.

Jensen is filling in for Danish Ambassador Friis Arne Petersen, who was originally scheduled to deliver the speech. Instead, Petersen is accompanying President Barack Obama to Copenhagen, where Obama will make a pitch for bringing the 2016 Summer Olympics to Chicago.

In Minnesota, it was more recently discovered that climate change is affecting the moose population in Minnesota.
