Political History Comes To MN In Huge Collection

(WCCO) A once in a lifetime exhibit in conjunction with Republican National Convention is close to completion at the Minneapolis Convention Center.

Civic Fest is a non-partisan way to participate in the RNC.

"These 35 exhibits have never been together before and will never be together again," said Civic Fest Director Maxene Fernstrom.

Exhibits like president Ronald Reagan's limousine, formal gowns worn by first ladies past and present and an Air Force One replica.

"As it was during the Nixon administration and visitors can tour through," said Fernstrom, about the Air Force One replica.

An oval office copy is there including a flag used in Kennedy's and Reagan's offices, never before loaned for display.

Miniature models of past presidents offices are shown along with china and memorabilia from every president in history.

"Please come, because it will never be back," said miniature White House creator John Zweifel.

One of the most spectacular exhibits is the exact miniature replica of the white house.

"Everything is authentic from cigar burns, gravy stains, pencils, extension cords -- the flag waves, the telephones ring, the clocks work, the TV sets work," said Zweifel.

Zweifel and his wife, Jan, spent 55 years building the masterpiece.

"I don't think anyone will put on another show like this," said Zweifel.

CivicFest will also be incorporating a lot of Minnesota elements into its display.
