A St. Paul chiropractor convicted of giving a female co-worker a massage and touching her inappropriately was sentenced Thursday to 90 days in the workhouse.
Christopher Thaemert was convicted of fifth-degree non-consensual sex contact, a gross misdemeanor, in January. He was acquitted on a fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct charge.
The incident happened at Phalen Chiropractic in St. Paul in July 2008. A criminal complaint said Thaemert offered to give a female co-worker a massage while the two were working alone on July 10.
The criminal complaint said the woman tried to stop the massage, saying, "Doctor Thaemert, what are you doing?" He responded by saying, "Sorry, I couldn't resist."
According to court testimony, Thaemert also kissed the woman's legs during the massage. His attorney, Earl Gray, said Thaemert denied touching the woman inappropriately, except for kissing her on the ankle. Gray said Thaemert apologized for that.
Police said Thaemert sent the woman a text message apologizing for his behavior, later in the day after the incident occurred.
In addition to the 90 days in the workhouse, Thaemert will be on probation for three years. He will have to submit a DNA sample and will have to report his conviction to the Minnesota Board of Chiropractic Examiners. He is also banned from having contact with the victim and must pay her restitution.
