Lakeville Man Acquitted In Baseball-Bat Killing

HASTINGS, Minn. (AP) ― The Dakota County prosecutor says a Lakeville man has been acquitted of murder charges in the baseball-bat killing of his friend.

County Attorney James Backstrom said Saturday a jury deliberated for 30 hours before acquitting 32-year-old Charlie Otto Reynolds.

The charges included first-degree premeditated murder.

He was accused of striking 33-year-old Joshua Jay Skare with a bat at Reynolds' home last year.

According to the complaint, the two had both been out for a night of drinking. They argued over where Skare would sleep, and Reynolds eventually hit him in the head with the bat.

Reynolds had claimed he was defending himself and his family.
