Animal rescue folks said they can't believe what someone did to a stray cat in St. Paul. They said it's an extreme case of cat cruelty.
"I've never seen anything this horrid", said Jen Sharlow with St. Francis Animal Rescue.
If cats have nine lives -- kitty Paulette has eight left.
On June 30, someone did something unthinkable -- they stuck the cat's head under a garage door and repeatedly opened and closed the door.
"She was almost decapitated in a garage on Lefond Avenue," said Sharlow.
It took St. Paul Police and the fire department more than 40 minutes to free her.
"She had her head stuck in between the pole (in the garage) and the garage door," said the animal rescue expert.
While authorities were trying to free the cat, she was trying to free herself.
"She was trying to pull her face out of the garage door" said Sharlow. "She's got lesions on her neck, on both sides and she also pulled out some of her claws, in this foot, so she basically declawed herself, trying to get out. To see the lesions on the neck, and the bloody paws, it was absolutely horrendous."
Police are still looking for the person responsible for harming the cat.
Meanwhile, Paulette continues to make progress.
"She's perfectly fine. She will heal up -- the vet said everything is healing up just wonderfully," said Sharlow.
During a recent vet's visit they made a surprised discovery -- Paulette is expecting kittens.
Paulette will be available for adoption in about 10 weeks. For more information on Paulette call the St. Francis Animal Rescue Shelter at 612-387-4869.
