2 Felonies Against Former Viking Eller Dropped

(WCCO) Two felony charges against former Vikings great Carl Eller are being dropped, while a judge will issue a ruling on two lesser charges stemming from Eller's clash with police last April.

The partial agreement was announced Wednesday in Hennepin County District Court. Eller's attorney, Albert Goins, confirmed the developments for The Associated Press.

The Star Tribune reports that Hennepin County District Court Judge Dan Mabley will now decide whether Eller is guilty of two gross misdemeanors: one count of fourth-degree assault on a Minneapolis police officer and one count of refusal to submit to a field sobriety test. Mabley will make a decision by Jan. 26.

The 66-year-old Hall of Fame player was arrested after he allegedly drove through a stop sign and narrowly missed hitting a squad car. Officers followed him home, where they say he became combative.

Eller has sued police in federal court, alleging officers intentionally hid or destroyed video evidence.
