A man in Burnsville, Minn. was stabbed, his home set on fire and his car stolen early Sunday morning, police said.
According to Burnsville Police, the assault happened on the 13600 block of Knox Drive at about 4:45 a.m.
Police responding to a neighbor's call found a 53-year-old male suffering from multiple stab wounds. The son of that next door neighbor is helping his mother by cleaning blood off her front steps.
"Something like that happens, a neighbor in trouble, comes over, you help him out," said Craig Trousmil, the neighbor's son. The neighbor insisted on staying on the steps because he was bleeding heavily.
"I think he was going into shock. I think he was just holding it all together so he could tell me what was wrong," said neighbor Wanda Trousmil.
The man told her he'd been stabbed several times in the chest and back.
Police said two intruders walked through an open garage door to steal a car and then likely entered the house for the keys. When the homeowner awoke and walked-in on the robbery, they attacked him.
"Why did you have to beat him so bad, why did you have to stab him?" said Wanda Trousmil.
After the attack the intruders set the man's house on fire by lighting up several locations inside. Tire tracks in the grass show where the men drove off in the victim's car. Police found the vehicle abandoned several blocks away.
The man was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center and is expected to recover from his stab wounds.
Burnsville Police are searching for the two men responsible for the attack. They say the man did not know the intruders.
Firefighters arrived quickly so the flames didn't spread to adjoining homes in the four-plex.
"He was lucky he could get out, and we were lucky he got out to warn us," said Wanda Trousmil.
