Ill. Man Dies In NE Minn. Boat Accident

ORR, Minn. (AP) ― An Illinois man is dead after a boat accident in northeastern Minnesota.

The St. Louis County sheriff's office says 55-year-old Dennis Ronald Nykiel of Park City, Illinois, was a passenger in a boat that apparently struck an underwater rock on Jeanette Lake.

Nykiel was thrown from the boat. Attempts to revive him failed. He was wearing a life jacket.

The boat was driven by 56-year-old Raymond Schmidt Jr. of Mendota, Illinois.

The accident happened around 6:20 p.m. Tuesday off the Echo trail, about 35 miles northeast of Orr.
