Bismarck Scouted For Movie

A former Bismarck man has been scouting part of his old neighborhood for a movie.

Brad Melby is producing a movie about the changes in his life when he was a freshman at the University of Minnesota.

Melby and fellow producer John Carroll Lynch, who was in the Coen brothers' "Fargo," have been looking at places in Bismarck for some of the scenes.

The movie is being called "Remember Minnesota," and is scheduled to start production next spring.

Lynch co-wrote the screenplay. It tells the story of how Melby gave up smoking pot and sold his car to join the University of Minnesota rowing team -- and of how his crew won a national rowing competition.

Melby, Lynch and Los Angeles writer Tess Clark still are raising money to get the picture made. Lynch figures it will cost about $8 million to produce.
