MN Episcopal Bishop Elected For Oregon Diocese

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) ― A 54-year-old clergyman has been elected as the 10th bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Oregon.
  
Clergy and delegates from throughout western Oregon elected the Rev. Michael Joseph Hanley on Friday. Hanley is currently rector of St. Christopher's Episcopal Church in Roseville, Minn.
  
He was elected in a second round of voting, with 104 of the 132 clergy votes and 146 of the 198 lay votes cast. A simple majority is required in both categories.
  
The state's 19,000 Episcopalians and their 74 churches have been without an elected bishop since March 2008, when the Rt. Rev. Johncy Itty resigned after four years in office.
  
Spokeswoman Sharon Rodgers says Hanley's election must be approved by two-thirds of the diocesan bishops and standing committees in the United States within 120 days.
