E-Condolences Pouring In For Bachman Family

(WCCO) At a hospital bed in Beijing, a Minnesota mother spoke her first words since the attack that killed her husband. A man with a knife stabbed Todd and Barbara Bachman as they visited a tourist attraction near the Olympics.

The Bachman's Floral CEO died. His wife is getting stronger Monday with her family at her bedside in China.

Twin Cities-based company shared an update on her recovery.

"Todd was a loving and enthusiastic messenger of love and support, not only in business, but with his family, in athletics, and in his faith," Karen Bachman, Todd's niece.

Since the news, hundreds have used their computers to offer condolences. From New Orleans and Florida, a horticulture professor from Georgia, even as far away as Germany, the guestbook continues to grow.

"They feel sometimes a sense of helplessness; people, so they want to do something. A way for them to do it is to write something online and just let them know that 'I'm thinking about them,'" said Tony Del Percio with the Bradshaw Grief Resource Center.

Del Percio said the online trend can help families grieve knowing their loved ones' life touched so many, but he doesn't want this kind of communication to replace what a family needs most.

"Hopefully the online does not substitute the human contact that families desperately need after a death," he added.
