Astronaut From Tiny MN Town Will Soon Be In Space

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) ― A Minnesota astronaut is among the crew of the space shuttle Discovery that blasted into space Saturday.

Karen Nyberg is one of only a half-dozen from the state who have gone to space. She becomes the 50th woman to fly in space.

Nyberg is from the tiny town of Vining, which is located about 27 miles east of Fergus Falls. She graduated from Henning High School in 1988.
Discovery launched right on time, at 4:02 p.m. Central time.

The crew of seven plans to bring major components to the Japanese Kibo laboratory and will also take up a new pump for the space station's malfunctioning toilet.
