How Do I Tell If I Have An Ash Tree?

(WCCO) The Emerald Ash Borer is in Minnesota, so how can you tell if your tree might be infected by the bug?

First you need to find out if you have an ash tree since ash borers only attack green, white, black and blue ash trees, according to the University of Minnesota Extension Service.

In Minnesota and throughout the Midwest, green and white ash are most common, and blue ash is very rare.

There are multiple types of ash trees so there are different things to look for.

First branches and buds are directly across from each other and leaves are compound and have 5-11 leaflets.

When the tree has seeds, they are typically in an oar shape and hang in clusters.

Bark on older ash trees have a diamond pattern of ridges and young trees tend to be smooth.
