Senator Amy Klobuchar is holding a news conference this morning to call attention to an upcoming transition in the way TV stations broadcast their signals.
Next February, television stations are due to start broadcasting exclusively digital signals. TVs that still use old-fashioned rabbit-ear antennas won't be able to pick up those signals.
According to estimates, about 20 percent of Minnesota households still own TVs that rely on over-the-air transmissions. Most are in greater Minnesota. People in that situation will need to get converter boxes, cable TV or buy a new digital-ready television in order to keep watching TV.
Klobuchar will join TV industry and community leaders at the Best Buy store in Richfield in order to raise awareness with consumers who don't know about the upcoming transition.
