Woman Killed By Ambulance Identified

ST. PAUL (WCCO) ― St. Paul Police have identified the 79-year-old woman is dead after being struck by an ambulance.

According to a police representative, the woman who was struck was Margaret Kuehn, of St. Paul.

The ambulance, along with other emergency responders, was at a Walgreens parking lot on the 1600 block of Randolph Avenue, responding to a report of a car that had gone through a fence and into an alley.

When the ambulance backed up the alley to get closer to the crash, it hit the woman, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said it appears as though Kuehn was not aware of the presence of the ambulance, nor did the driver see her walk into the alley.

St. Paul Mayor Chris Coleman released a statement, saying "We will fully investigate the circumstances of this tragic accident, and as this day ends in grief, our thoughts and prayers are with the family of the victim as they go through this difficult time."

The accident is being investigated by the St. Paul Police traffic and accident unit. The internal investigation means to review safety procedures.

The ambulance is not in service while authorities investigate.
