Franken Narrowly Outraises Coleman

WASHINGTON (AP) ― DFL Senate candidate Al Franken narrowly outraised Republican Sen. Norm Coleman over a recent seven-week period, but Coleman held a cash advantage heading into the final months of the campaign.
  
Franken's campaign reported raising $1.38 million, compared to $1.27 million for Coleman, for the period covering July 1 through Aug. 20. Coleman, a first-term Minnesota senator, finished the period with $5.6 million in the bank, while Franken had $2.37 million.
  
Meanwhile, in the state's only open seat, the 3rd Congressional District, Republican candidate Erik Paulsen filed a report Thursday showing he had raised $320,000 during the period, short of the $352,000 that Democrat Ashwin Madia announced raising on Wednesday. Paulsen led in cash on hand, $1.19 million to $931,000. The winner of the race will succeed Republican Jim Ramstad, who is retiring.
