Snow Tubers Check Out New Chute
by Dennis Douda
Taylors Falls, Minn. (WCCO) ―
After five years of planning, nine months of construction and thousands of pounds of powder, the largest tubing chute in the Upper Midwest opened at Wild Mountain Wednesday.
The Wild Chute is 1,200 feet long and tubers who were checking out the new thrill loved it.
"It feels pretty fun and cool," said Ellie Fishman, 7.
"If you make a long chain of up to 15 to 20 people, you can get up to 30 miles an hour," said Dan Raedeke, the chief engineer for Wild Mountain, which is in Taylors Falls, Minn.
Raedeke is the mastermind behind the new mountain of snow.
"The whole family comes, anywhere from 3, 4-year-olds, all the way up to grandma, grandpa, the 70-year-olds going down it and having fun.
Five-year-old Sammy Walker thinks the best part is spinning.
"(Be)cause when you go down, you spin," he explained.
Tubing is $15 for two hours, which is enough for 20 to 30 rides. Wild Chutes is open from noon until 9 p.m. through the New Year. After that, the park is open on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
