Senator Amy Klobuchar is providing a high-profile boost to DFL Senate candidate Al Franken, asking supporters to contribute to his campaign.
Klobuchar, a Minnesota Democrat, sent an e-mail out Friday with the subject line, "Why I need Al Franken in the Senate." It's her first direct solicitation on behalf of Franken.
She says Franken will be a champion for Minnesota families, and will fight for change on issues such as health care, energy, the economy and Iraq.
Klobuchar does not mention Franken's Democratic opponent, Republican Senator Norm Coleman, by name. But she says that Franken "will never sell out to the special interests." Franken's campaign calls Coleman "the special interest senator."

Norm Coleman was born in New York City in 1949. Al Franken was born in New York City in 1951.
