Former Teacher Donates $1.2M To St. Cloud State

ST. CLOUD, Minn. (AP) ― Vera Russell never made more than $28,000 a year as a teacher, but she's now being called the "million-dollar lady" at St. Cloud State.

Russell graduated from the university in 1940 was a teacher and principal for the next 35 years. She died in May at age 92.

Since her death, she's given $1.2 million to the university's College of Education through a retirement account and farmland.

She's the college's first million-dollar benefactor.

College of Education Dean Kate Steffens says Russell really believed in administrator's vision for the education college.

The donations came in installments, including some land she donated before her death. The school used the proceeds from the sale to renovate its technology center.
