A Dodge Center, Minn. teenager is out to help the people of Cambodia -- one toilet at a time.
Naomi Wente, 15, visited Cambodia a year ago with her family and a group of students and teachers from Rochester Community and Technical College. The poverty she saw made her want to help.
She decided to focus on raising money to bring toilets to the country's villages. So far she's collected more than $2,000.
Kim Sin, a Cambodia native who now works at the Rochester college, helped organize the trip. He said improving toilet facilities in Cambodia is about more than sanitation. It can keep girls in school. That's because some of them are embarrassed to use primitive public toilets after they begin menstruating, and drop out of school.
