Short-Term Senator Barkley Considers Another Bid

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) ― Former Jesse Ventura adviser Dean Barkley says he might run for the U.S. Senate seat he held for about two months in 2002 -- unless his old boss decides to, instead.

As governor, Ventura appointed Barkley to fill the remainder of Paul Wellstone's term after Wellstone was killed in a plane crash. Barkley convinced Ventura to run for governor in 1998 and later served in his administration.

Barkley told WCCO-AM on Tuesday that he and Ventura have been talking about the Senate race, which pits incumbent Republican Norm Coleman against likely DFL candidate Al Franken. Ventura has mentioned in recent interviews he might run, and Barkley says he'll probably run if Ventura decides not to.
