I-TEAM: New Report On Airplane Inspections

(WCCO) This week, critics of the airline industry demanded new safety standards for inspecting planes.

In 2005, the I-TEAM looked at concerns about one Northwest Airlines flight to Amsterdam.

Mechanics told WCCO a manager cleared the plane for takeoff even though it wasn't inspected.

A new report says: The way the Federal Aviation Administration investigated that accusation "appeared to focus on discounting the validity of the complaints rather than determining whether there were conditions at Northwest that needed correction."

The FAA disagreed with that. However, in this case, investigators are happy with the agency's plan to fix how it handles future complaints.
