In The Know: Something Fishy About School Lockdown

(WCCO) There was a scare up in Princeton earlier Friday. Middle school officials heard gunfire in the vicinity and police responded. Don Shelby said, nobody was in danger, except the local carp population.

Police responded to the report of gunfire in the area of a middle school, and the investigation was thrown together. The dragnet included a stretch of the Rum River near the school known for its carp population.

On that stretch, they found their man. He explained that he had fired a gun, and he was sorry for it, and he meant no harm to the children and he was ashamed that he had caused so much concern.

He explained that he was simply fishing for carp. He told police he'd caught the fish, dragged it to the shore and then dispatched it with one of the two guns he had in the Jon boat.

Nevertheless, the whole of the four schools in the district went on lockdown. There will likely be no charges, there being no law in Minnesota against fatally shooting a carp, and there being no branch of Carp Unlimited, or Carp Forever in Minnesota.

Though, there is a chance an aggressive prosecutor might go after the guy for, say, lead poisoning.
