In The Know: A Bit Of Column A, A Bit Of Column B
(WCCO)
As we mentioned earlier: The National Science Foundation has concluded a study that finds conservatives are happier, in general, than liberals. Don says, not everyone will be happy with the findings.
First of all, I'm not too happy that we spend a lot of tax money on such research but, nevertheless, the research finds that more conservatives report being happy than liberals.
A series of questions were put to conservatives and liberals and it appears, from the research, that conservatives can more easily accept a little unfairness in the world. Liberals, on the other hand, can't shake it off so easily.
Liberals, in other words, take on the injustice in the world, and internalize it. Conservatives, on the other hand, find a way to explain it.
The NSF study says conservatives see the world as a meritocracy. That means they believe people rise to the level of their own excellence through hard work and study. Liberals are more apt to see barriers in front of people, and it is government's job to remove those obstacles, and until that happens, they tend to be a little sad about it.
There was no box to check for the rest of us who think both things are true.
