In The Know: Palin's Accent Minnesotan? U Becha!

(WCCO) The vice presidential debates are coming up tomorrow. There is a lot on the line, and viewership is expected to be larger than the televised debate between John McCain and Barak Obama. B efore the debate, Don Shelby focuses on one question on the minds of millions.

Why does the Republican vice presidential candidate sound like she's from Minnesota?

My information comes from Slate.com reporters who consulted Alaskan residents and the editors of the Dictionary of American Regional English.

Sarah Palin, according to the experts, does, in fact, have a Minnesota accent. We all know that she was the mayor of Wasilla, Alaska.

The next big town over is called Palmer. She spent a lot of time growing up there. The U.S. government moved a large group of Minnesotans to that city back in 1930.

Their accent came with them. It is not unlike the Romanian language, the closest thing to ancient Latin in the world.

Trajan moved his troops into that region, and when the war was over, stayed, and spoke Latin. They still, almost, do.

So, Gov. Palin has a more of a true Minnesota accent than most Minnesotans. An accent preserved in its original form through time. The Slate.com people say that such an accent can make a person sound charming and authentic or seem stupid or uneducated.

How dare they? Okee, thets goin toh faihr.
