In The Know: Female Pompous Braggart? Never!

(WCCO) It is an axiom in the business world that women have a hard time breaking through the glass ceiling into important and high paying management roles. Now Don Shelby says a new study suggests women themselves may stand in the way of advancement.

The study says that women are nicer people than men, and that's holding them back. Let me explain.

The study says women didn't create the glass ceiling, it is really there. But the skills to break through it are traits that a lot of women find, may I say it, "unlady-like."

Their male counterparts, says the study, have no trouble bragging about their contributions around the boss, touting their accomplishments, whether true or totally made up for the occasion.

The study concludes that many women find the behavior rude, morally suspect and socially unacceptable.

I'm not saying the study accurately puts it finger on the problem, but it got me thinking. I remember my mother telling my sister that it wasn't good to talk about yourself … it would make her too big for her britches or something like that.

I don't think I've ever met a woman I would call a truly pompous braggart. I've met hundreds of men who fit the description. And that was just today.
