In The Know: Pauly, How Could You?

(WCCO) Our longtime friend and weatherman, Paul Douglas was on television Thursday night, just not on WCCO-TV. So, for the first time in about a dozen years, we find ourselves, once again, competitors. Don Shelby said he doesn't mind Paul talking on another station, but just not tonight.

Why did he have to be the featured story on a competing channel on the same night that I present a story that took us six months to put together?

I told him that that was no way to treat a friend. Paul, of course, had no power to decide what night his story ran, and it might make you feel better to know that Paul was given permission a long time ago by this station to appear on another.

Just not tonight, Paul! I'll never get those six months back!

We were competitors for a long time before we became colleagues on the same anchor desk, and we will remain close friends long after this current news cycle expires, but for the love of Pete, Pauly, the next time that they ask you to increase their audience, check the schedule and make sure you aren't going up against me and the best work I've done in a decade.

Even so, you're still my buddy.
