In The Know: Bush's Change Of Mind
(WCCO)
Something will happen Wednesday that might change some minds on whether global warming is real, and whether it is caused by humans. The President of the United States will say so. Don Shelby says no doubt the skeptics will say the President himself has been converted to the religion of pseudo-science.
Or they can say, if the president, a conservative Republican, says greenhouse gases caused by humans is a danger to our globe, well, maybe it's true.
Or they could look at the United States Supreme Court, with a conservative majority, ordering the Environmental Protection Agency to regulate carbon dioxide as a pollutant.
Or the skeptics could look at the president's Department of Interior affording special protection to polar bears and arctic seals because of diminishing polar sea ice. All of this coming from an administration once accused of denying the science.
I think what has changed is that Washington has figured out that politics isn't science, and vice versa. It doesn't matter whether you are a Republican or a Democrat. The earth is our home together.
Of course, there is still disagreement between the parties on exactly how to solve the problem -- by federal mandate or market pressure. Now that's a debate worth having. But tomorrow, in the White House Rose Garden, the President will say he is a convert to the science.
