In The Know: Gov't Paid By Those They're Checking
(WCCO)
Here's something else to avoid: the BPA compound, which is found in nearly everything from baby bottles to CDs. A federal agency says it may cause all kinds of cancer. Don Shelby wonders why it took so long for the government to tell us about the threat.
Actually, I don't wonder at all. I know why it has taken the government so long to tell us about bisphenol A (BPA), that it causes breast and prostate cancer, early puberty and behavioral changes in laboratory animals.
Here's why, and it is public record: The government agency we count on to protect us from harmful chemicals, the Food and Drug Administration, admitted to Congress that it had disregarded hundreds of medical reports on the harmful effects of BPA, but publicly used only two studies which said it was safe. Those two studies were paid for by chemical companies.
Let me say it again.
The government used studies paid for by the chemical companies it is charged with regulating.
This stuff is apparently more harmful to infants than anyone else because it is all over baby bottles. You can learn more at a blog called
scienceforsale.com. It is written by Ashley Shelby.
The similarity in her name and mine is not a coincidence. She is absolutely committed to keeping her child -- my grandson -- safe from cancer. She just wishes the government felt the same way.
