A man died this summer after receiving an incorrect form of medication at Health and Rehab New Brighton, according to a recent report from the Minnesota Department of Health.
The report states neglect occurred on Aug. 3 and 4 when a patient was given the incorrect medication, which resulted in acute renal failure and caused the man's death on Aug. 19.
The Minnesota Department of Health said the pharmacy that provided the medication was at fault and had dispensed traditional amphoteriein for the patient rather than the cholesteryl complex formula that was ordered by the physician.
The report also states the registered nurses and staff at the New Brighton facility followed appropriate protocol to administer the medication and established that the labels on the IV medication matched the physician order.
The facility had no way of knowing that the amphoteriein was an incorrect formula.
