Hospital Donates Ambulance To Literacy Program
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) ―
A retired Hennepin County Medical Center ambulance is getting new life promoting children's literacy with the help of the Minnesota Timberwolves mascot.
Crunch will show off his new wheels on Thursday at the downtown hospital. It's the first stop on the "Reading to the Rescue" tour.
Anyone who donates at least a dollar can sign the outside of the ambulance, which is now called Crunch's Den. Organizers hope that ambulance will be covered with signatures when it's officially dedicated at the Timberwolves season opener on Oct. 28.
The medical center's children's literacy liaison, Lynne Burke, says HCMC supports children's literacy because reading is critical to a child's healthy development.

Hennepin County Medical Center began in 1887 as City Hospital. In 1964, Hennepin County assumed ownership of the hospital.
