On Thursday, the Minnesota Department of Health released more information about the H1N1 vaccine. Every county in Minnesota has at least some H1N1 vaccine and now there are plans to start opening public vaccination clinics.
Forty schools in the state reported outbreaks last week, down from 137 the week before. Six more Minnesotans died from H1N1. That brings the total number of deaths to 21.
On Friday, some day cares in Hennepin County will hold clinics for vaccines. Next week, seven Minneapolis schools will do the same. Parents will need to sign waiver forms first.
Now that vaccine is starting to become more available, there is some secrecy surrounding just how many shots are out there. There's a concern too many people may show up, like they have at clinics in California and other places around the country. People even camped out to get the vaccine.
That's why clinics Waconia, Bloomington and St. Cloud won't say how many doses they'll dole out.
Kristen Ehresmann from the Minnesota Department of Health says it comes down to supply and demand and that can become a matter of safety.
"While most of the population is reasonable, there's always the potential you'll have difficulties in allocating that scarce resource, so that's always a consideration," Ehresmann said.
Moms like Jodi Wussler are worried that won't work since if there's not enough of the vaccine to go around, it will be a waste of time for families.
"Especially if there are kids showing symptoms of H1N1 and my family is there in line. I don't think that's very fair to do," Wussler said.
The Health Department has also told clinics to be cautious in promoting public vaccinations. It's hoping people to stick to clinics near their home.
