Thanks to a last-minute deal, Fairview Health Services will stay in the insurance network of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota.
The Blues signed an agreement with Fairview on Thursday, one day before their contract was to expire. The new deal runs through 2009.
The agreement ends months of uncertainty for as many as 50,000 Blue Cross members who use Fairview doctors, clinics and labs. They were told they might soon have to find doctors outside of Fairview or pay higher out-of-network charges.
Officials of both organizations say they're pleased a deal was reached before people were forced to make unwanted changes to their health care.
Fairview is Minnesota's third-largest provider of hospital and clinical services.
