Good To Know: Stuck In Airplane, Or Jail Cell?

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) ― In the past two weeks: two Minnesota-bound planes, sat on the runway tarmac for six hours with passengers trapped inside. Monday, Sun Country Airlines has instituted a four-hour maximum delay before returning passengers to the terminal. Don Shelby said that's a good start.

But, it is, in my opinion, only a start. Eight airlines have some kind of policy involving the length of time it can hold passengers hostage inside an enclosed tube two stories off the ground, motionless.

I can't handle six hours in a tube. The old claustrophobia kicks in. When that happens, the urge to breathe fresh air and not backed-up johns and body odor kicks in big time.

I know how to open a passenger jet's door. It is printed right on it. If I'm on a flight trapped for six hours on the driveway, you will recognize me as the guy opening that door and jumping out.

I would like to avoid doing that, since I would trade a claustrophobia-inducing tube with an equally claustrophobia-inducing jail cell.

I applaud the policy changes. But, here's a better suggestion: Fix the problem. Saying you will only drive people a little less crazy is not a solution.
