Good To Know: Remedial Health Care Help For Some
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) ―
The national health care report card is out, and again, Minnesota is one of the best states in the country in that category. Mississippi is, again, last. Don says, the report card suggests some states need remedial help.
Vermont doesn't need any help. It comes in at number one. It has nearly universal coverage.
But, you should keep in mind that there are 19 U.S. cities each with a larger population than the entire state of Vermont.
But, the state gets high marks for prevention, which is not really talked about in any national health reform policy. Every Vermonter is sent reminders that a yearly doctor's checkup is due.
Mississippi on the other hand is a sad case. It has the highest infant mortality rate in the country.
The state's director of Health Advocacy said, "I'm not al all surprised. Our policy makers work hard at being last."
Minnesota came in fourth in the nation.
No matter which side you are on, it is a shame that the quality of health care you receive in this country depends on the accident of where you were born and raised.
