MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) ― The big news on the blogosphere and cable news networks is Michelle Obama and what people are saying about what she's wearing these days. Don says, don't make too much of it. It is summer vacation for journalists, too.

See, people forget an important fact in the world of journalism. Not much of importance happens in the summertime.

Congress knocks off in August, half of Washington goes on vacation and journalists all across the country, who aren't taking some time off themselves, scratch the dirt like chickens trying to find a morsel.

The folks who stick around end up reporting on healthcare reform, stimulus money and the fate of Detroit.

But, you know it is slow-going when hours of television time is spent on whether the First Lady ought to wear shorts. I was just getting used to talking about her arms, and then six months ago, about her designer gowns, then J. Crew casual.

I'm about as interested in Michelle Obama's wardrobe as about Lindsay Lohan's next picture.

You can tell the news cycle is running on summertime low when cable news brings in experts to talk about the First Lady's shorts.
