Good To Know: There Must Be A Better Way
(WCCO)
The state canvassing board has made another decision in the Coleman-Franken Senator recount, and now the Supreme Court may get involved. Don Shelby says when it is all said and done, the legislature might think about a better way to handle close calls.
Have you grown weary of the Senate recount news? It is confusing, it's embarrassing to learn how many holes our election system has in it, how many mistakes were made and how many votes may never be counted, how many votes were lost.
There had to be a recount, but in Georgia, a close Senate race was decided in days. They just held another election, a runoff election. Yes, it extended the political advertising for two candidates a while longer after an already wearying campaign season. But, they scheduled an election, and people voted again, and at the end of the day, they had a clear winner.
Statewide elections are costly, but so is this recount business. When they add it all up, it will be good to know which one is cheaper. It might be the one that is the fairest of them all: another vote.
