Good To Know: Real Judges, Making Tough Decisions
(WCCO)
The Senate recount continues at the canvassing board, and it will be awhile before we know the outcome of the race. But now real judges are being asked to make tough decisions. Don Shelby said it is good to know robed ones are actually acting like judges, too.
The judges on the board all have reputations for even-handedness, thoroughness and control of their courtrooms. The judges haven't left their robes at the door of the canvassing room.
The whole thing is being streamed on the Internet, and it's been a treat to watch the judges in action. When attorneys for Franken and Coleman try to influence the panel's decision, the judges don't shout, "Shut up and sit down."
But, they might as well have, because that is the effect. The lawyers shut up and sit down. Maybe they know that they will face these judges again on other cases in a real courtroom.
I like it.
I like it when fair-minded decision-makers, tasked with a momentous charge, brush aside the politics and get down to business.
The more I watch the judges, the more I wonder why they weren't on the Senate ballot in November.
