Good To Know: The Vikings Players Did Their Part

(WCCO) The National Football League has granted the Minnesota Vikings another day to sell the remaining 3,000 tickets to Sunday's game to avoid a blackout. Don Shelby said, television viewers are hoping an angel will step in at the last minute and buy up the unsold tickets.

On WCCO Radio today, I took a couple of calls from people who said that the players themselves ought to buy the tickets and give them away to children and families who can't afford the big dollar price of a game. That sounds pretty good -- a final gesture might be to pool their money and buy the game out.

For the record, they already pony up. Players get four tickets for the family, free; then buy --at face value -- even more. Many of those are given away to kids in youth football, the Ronald McDonald House, the Police Athletic League, children's homes.

In other words, the Vikings players got us here, and then they bought a lot of tickets for fans of the future. And to top it off, the money will not go the Vikings, but the League. I think they've done their part.

We have until 3:30 tomorrow for those who have the means to do ours.
