Good To Know: Is Washington Getting The Message?

(WCCO) The Senate Finance Committee will vote Tuesday on a version of a health insurance reform bill. There should still be a chance to get your voice heard. Don Shelby said, that all depends whether there is anyone on the other end of the line.

I wanted to thank Paul Chase in Crosby for providing me with fodder for tonight's [Monday] segment. He said in an e-mail to me today that he is concerned about some things, and he wanted to talk to our two Minnesota senators, so he called them.

Constituents are invited to call and leave messages for the Senators, and he tried. He tried twice. So, I tried. This is what we heard at 7 o'clock Monday night when we dialed the offices of Sens. Klobuchar and Franken.

"Your call has been forwarded to an automatic voice message system. The mailbox belonging to 'Office of Sen. Amy Klobuchar' is full. Goodbye."

"Your call has been forwarded to an automatic voice message system. 'Sen. Franken's Office' is full. Goodbye."

Well, this could be a good sign, actually. Lots of constituents are leaving their 2 cents on an answering machine not equipped to handle the load. Or, it could be a sign that in these tough economic times, good answering machine-clearing help is really hard to find.
