Good To Know: Finding A Job Under The Tree
(WCCO)
Economists are telling us that we are on the way out of our recession and the recovery has begun. Don Shelby said; tell that to people who've lost jobs and homes.
Economists say that employment lags behind the general recovery, so people who have lost jobs won't be finding steady employment for awhile.
What will help the recovery is the unusual bounce this holiday buying season may present. Retailers are saying that they expect increases of a point-and-a-half over last year, and in order to do that, they'll have to hire more people. Twenty-seven of 78 major companies reported this week that they will hire workers in the fourth quarter.
Professor Akshay Rao of the Carlson School of Management told me Monday that people have been living with their purse strings drawn so tight, for so long, that a "frugality fatigue" has set in. They are tired of living in fear.
He believes that people will start buying again at the first sign of economic health. Signs are appearing, and with them, hope that this nightmare is about to end.
