Good To Know: Hitting The Court, Despite The Water

(WCCO) As we've talked about throughout this newscast: Cities, towns and farmsteads all along the Red River Valley are still being threatened by rising flood waters. But Don Shelby said it's good to know, like the postal service, the hard court five of Ada-Borup will not be stopped from their appointed rounds.

It is the first time the boys from Ada-Borup have made it to state, and a little water in the fields, and flooded homes will not stop them.

It takes something special for these young men and their coaches to make this trip.

The Wild Rice River in that community is in flood, and the towns are not far from the Red River dishpan. Folks up there say the flood in the area is worse than 1997.

School was two hours late today because of last night's blizzard and some of the guys stayed in town so they wouldn't miss the bus to the Twin Cities.

Why, you might ask, is this important to me?

Those who know me understand that I'm still a 17-year-old basketball player at heart…and nothing, neither hell nor high water would keep me, or the boys from Ada-Borup, from going to the state tournament.
