Blaine Kids Find Wedding Band In Halloween Candy

BLAINE, Minn. (WCCO) ― Men in Blaine should be checking their ring fingers now that Halloween is over. One of them might be missing a wedding band.

On Saturday night, 13-year-old Kayla Panning went trick-or-treating with four of her girlfriends. They hit up to 30 homes in the Quail Creek neighborhood of Blaine between 7 and 9 that night.

Once Kayla got back to her friend's home, she dumped her candy and found something shiny. It was a golden ring.

"I thought it was one of those toy rings that they were giving out with the candy, but it wasn't," Kayla said.

Kayla's friend's parents checked out the ring. At first, they thought it was a fake, until they saw its engraving said 14K.

"You think [it was a] candy ring or trick-or-treating and somebody was pulling a prank on them," said Eric Peterson, Danielle Peterson's father.

The girls thought about heading back out to find the owner.

"I thought that we should go up to all the houses and instead of saying trick or treat, ask if it was their ring," said Danielle.

But by then it was late in the evening.

They hope bringing their story to television might reunite the ring with its hand. If that doesn't work, they'll try to the Anoka County Shopper.

"We want to find out whose ring it is because there's probably someone out there who's freaking out right now," Kayla said.
